I’m officially trying to make a “My Favorite Things” party a twice-a-year tradition—now that I’ve fully accepted how much I love it. Favorite Things Parties are such a fun excuse to get the girls together, dress up for a pretty, girly gathering, and drink as many mimosas as your heart desires.
The first time I hosted one, it fell during Valentine’s week, so it was very much Galentine’s-themed. This time around, it happened at the end of February, so it wasn’t technically Galentine’s… but let’s be honest, it kind of still was.
Now, let me be clear—this type of party is not for everyone. Know your crowd. I can already picture a few people I know rolling their eyes just at the idea of it, and that’s okay! Not everyone needs an invite 😉 Fun comes in all shapes and forms, and for me, this is one of the things I truly enjoy creating.
Maybe it’s because I love planning parties, hosting, and getting my healthy dose of social interaction (I’m actually quite introverted and spend most of my time on my own or with family). Whatever the reason, this is something that fills my cup—and I hope it inspires you to try it too.
What Is a Favorite Things Party?
A Favorite Things Party is actually a very simple concept—but it’s important to make sure everyone understands the rules before they arrive. Start by setting a budget and deciding how many items each guest should bring.
For example:
Each guest brings three of their favorite thing, each costing $10 or less. And, it must be the same item x3.
After the exchange (more on that below), everyone goes home with three new items—different from the ones they brought, of course!
How the Exchange Works
There are a few ways to run the exchange, but the initial setup stays the same. Each guest places their items in a designated area, usually a table, once they arrive. When everyone is settled, guests take turns explaining their favorite item and sharing why they love it so much. This part is honestly one of my favorites—it’s fun, personal, and always sparks conversation.
Then the real fun begins.
For the first round, I like to let everyone go at the same time to grab one item and put it into their bag. I usually prepare paper bags or tote bags for everyone ahead of time. Since each person brought fewer items than the total number of guests, this is where things can get a little competitive (and a little rowdy—in the best way).
To slow things down and stretch out the fun, I like to turn the remaining rounds into mini games. Think “Minute to Win It”–style challenges where winners get to pick first. It keeps the energy high, adds lots of laughs, and makes the whole exchange feel like an experience—not just a swap.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, a Favorite Things Party is about more than just the gifts—it’s about connection, laughter, and celebrating the little things that bring us joy. Everyone leaves with new favorites, great memories, and that cozy, happy feeling you only get after spending quality time with people you love. If you’re looking for a fun, low-pressure way to host something special, I can’t recommend this party idea enough. Trust me—it might just become a tradition for you too. ✨🥂
